Hadimba cottages in Manali have an Ideal
Location and a delightful view of the
Beas Valley. These cottages are ideal
for those who seek privacy and a touch
of solitude. Built in 1553, this four-storey
wooden Hadimba or Dhungri temple is famous
for its exquisitely carved doorway. It
is located in the middle of a forest
called the "Dhungiri Van Vihar".
This temple built in Pagoda style is
dedicated to Goddess Hadimba.The pagoda
type wooden temple of the Goddess is
according to Hira Nand Shastri, the antiquarian
about 500 years old.
No
idol is enshrined and only a footprint
on a stone is kept within.Hadimba Goddess
has been humanized by the people and
made their own.Manali still maintains
its charm and beauty. With the majestic
grandeur of the Himalayas on one side,
river Beas cutting across the town, verdant
valleys with rolling meadows and grazing
herds dotting the hillsides, apple orchards
and the folk music adding romance to
the ambience and presenting a wondrous
canvas to the travellers.
