Shimla / Kufri

Kufri is a beautiful hill station situated at an altitude of 2633 m above the sea level and 19 km from Shimla on the National Highway 22. Kufri is derived from the name Kufer which literally means pond. This place is famous for ski slopes and offers great views of the deep valleys and forests which rise towards the lofty Himalayas. It is surrounded by cedar woods and through which one can walk to Mahasu Peak, the highest peak in Kufri.

The Himalayan Nature Park and the Indira Tourist Park are the near by tourist attractions. In January, National Snow Statue Competition is conducted there. An annual winter sports festival is also organized every year in the month of February. Fagu, a star resort at the Fagu hill top, is situated 6 km from Kufri along the Hindustan-Tibet road. Kufri offers beautiful scenery which touches the heart of each visitor

Mahasu Peak : Mahasu Peak is the highest peak in Kufri, about 19 km from Shimla. Here one can take a short trek through the forest, enjoying the breathtaking views. Fagu and Koti situated nearby are ideal for trekking. Accommodation facilities are available at Kufri.

Fagu (2509m): Quite and peaceful, 22 km away, it is a fine resort far from the madding crowd. It has a Rest House and Tourists Bungalow overlooking the Giri valley.

Charabra : Hotel Wildflower Hall is located 13 km from Shimla, next to the village of Charabra, on the Shimla-Kufri road. Situated 8250 ft above sea-level, Hotel Wildflower Hall offers a spectacular view of the cedar forests and mountain ranges and breathtaking views of the Greater Himalayas.

How to get there

By air: Shimla's airport is at a distance of 23 kilometers at Jubbarhatti. The Airport is well connected to Chandigarh, Kullu and Delhi. Jagsons Airways offer excellent services and connect Shimla to various parts of the country.

By rail: Kalka, located at a distance of 96 kilometers from Shimla is the nearest railhead. From Delhi you can take a train to reach Kalka. In any case you have to change the train, as there are no direct trains to Shimla.

By road: A fine network of roads connects Shimla to all major cities in India.
