History
Originally Spiti was pronounced as 'Piti' which means middle land. Historically it was part of the Western Tibet which was then known as Nariss Korssum. In 11th century the king of Nariss Korssum divided the kingdom among his 3 sons. Spiti and Zanskar formed a separate kingdom together, but later Ladakh took the authority of Spiti and Zanskar was ruled by Nono, the younger brother of King of Ladakh. Spiti became part of Kullu after the attack of Zorawar Singh and continued to be an independent state under the rule of Nonos during the time British ruled India.
