GOLF IN HIMACHAL - A Royal Sport

The state of Himachal Pradesh has emerged in the recent years as one of the favourite destinations with domestic and foreign tourists alike. Varied ranges of terrain and climate in far flung areas offer many options to experienced as well as uninitiated adventure sportsmen. And Himachal Pradesh has emerged as one of a popular golf destinations in India.

Naldehra ( Shimla ) :
Naldera 22 km. from Shimla and 3,044 meters in altitude is best place for golfing in Shimla. Naldera offers one of the oldest and most sporting golf courses in India set in the midst of thick forests. The course, whose topography is absolutely natural, was originally placed by the British Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon in 1903 AD. He was so enhanted by the spot that he named one of his daughters 'Naldera' after the spot. This is a par 68, nine hole course which is regarded as one of the most challenging in the country.

In the repeat nine, the yardage somewhat increases .The links are maintained by Himachal Tourism and accomodation is available at Hotel Golf Glade. There are other hotels in the private sector near Naldera.

Annandale ( Shimla ):
Annadale in Shimla has nine hole course managed by the army.

Khajjiar (Chamba):
For golfing in Himachal there is another golf course at the exquisite glade of Khajjiar, 22 km from Dalhousie and 24 km from Chamba but it needs to be polished once again. Putting greens are available at several resorts and hotels. Golf courses are also coming up elsewhere in the state.

Naldehra:
The rolling greens of Naldehra in Himachal Pradesh are par for the oldest golf course in India. This is an unusual course, perched at a height of 2044 metres, strewn with boulders, trees and little hillocks.
   
Khajjiar:
Khajjiar is often reffered to as "Gulmarg of Himachal Pradesh". The lush green meadows are surrounded by thick pine and cedar forests. Grazing herds of sheep, goats and other milch cattle present a prefect pastoral scenery.
   
Kufri:
Known for its ski runs Kufri, 16 Km away, attracts the largest number of tourists who come to shimla. It has a backdrop of peaks covered with snow, Himalayan National Park and a small zoo.
