Chamba / Kalatope - The Ultimate Picnic Spot

Kalatope, at an altitude of 2,440 m, is a prime attraction of Chamba District. Blessed with lush landscapes, deodar forest and dales, it is often referred to as tourists’ paradise. The snow peaks enhance the beauty of the place.Kalatop is famous for the sanctuary, where rare and endangered species of animals are the inhabitants. Numerous trek paths adjoin the place. The temperature varies from 10 degree Celsius to 35 degree Celsius.

Kalatope is 5 Km from Dalhousie, Walking along the secluded and forested road through upper Nakorota hills, one reaches Lakkarmandi. The home of dhogri families, Lakkarmandi is nestled between 8,600 feet high Dayan Kund peak on its right and Kalatope on the left. The little Kalatope Sanctuary has a variety of wildlife such as ibex, deer, bears and leopards..

Jandri Ghat : place of the rulers of erstwhile Chamba State, is located and surrounded by tall pine trees, is a place worth visiting.

Bara Pathar : Set amidst thick forest is the small temple of Bhulwani Mata, in the village of Ahla, on the way to Kalatope. A fair is celebrated in July to venerate the goddess. It is 4 km away from the town.

Subhash Baoli : A lovely spot for picnic, commanding a good view of snow covered hills. This has been named after the indomitable man of Indian politics, before the independence days, Shri Subhash Chandra Bose.
